I am a climate scientist who started out as a chemist. For more than eight years I have worked on water quality, environmental data, and pollution response, mostly inside California's environmental agencies. What I care about is making environmental decisions easier to see and check, especially when it comes to pollution response, water chemistry, and environmental justice.
Before UC Berkeley, I was a Senior Environmental Scientist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, where I led statewide coordination of oil spill contingency planning across California's coastal regions. The job meant working closely with federal agencies, tribal governments, and regional partners to strengthen preparedness and response, including newer questions the old plans never accounted for, like renewable fuels and culturally sensitive site protections.
Earlier, at the California State Water Resources Control Board, I managed large environmental datasets and built the tools that made that data usable for the policy and regulatory teams who relied on it. I wrote automation and machine learning processes to handle the analysis, which freed those teams to spend their time on the decisions instead of the processing.
I started in laboratory and field science, running water quality tests and environmental sampling in a lot of different places, including the post-wildfire response in California after the 2018 Camp Fire.
I am finishing a Master of Climate Solutions at UC Berkeley, working on climate systems, open science, and environmental data transparency. I am especially drawn to climate disaster management, the work of getting good information and clear plans in place before a disaster, not assembled in the middle of one.
When I am not at work you can usually find me cooking or trying out a new food spot, studying tarot, or somewhere near the nearest body of water. I think climate work goes better when there is still room for joy in it, so I keep some. I have roots in Sacramento and the Central Valley, a home in the Bay Area, and a soft spot for traveling and turning up somewhere I have never been.
